Madcap experiment mtgdecks1/1/2024 * 1) Complaints about quick rotations are justified in Wizard’s eyes (Note that this is pure speculation based on logic alone and no private information from Wizards or vendors) To me, there are three major factors that would incentivize Wizards to make this change. In this way, it seems as if a frequent rotation would *improve* Wizard’s bottom line, but clearly that’s not the case. Rather, they make money from people and vendors opening boxes whenever a new product is released. Now, the real question of focus is: “How is the 3 block rotation losing Wizard’s money?” Keep in mind that Wizards does not make money from people playing and buying into standard directly. It’s clear that something about the 2 block paradigm is losing Wizard’s money, and enough for them to pull the plug on an otherwise great change. You can find episode 23 here, if you prefer that medium:Īlthough I’m confident that Wizards has been getting complaints about rotations being too frequent, that alone is not enough for them to make this change so quickly. If anything, read the Negatives section.īit of a plug here: I’ve recorded an episode of MTG Speculator Podcast which details our arguments about the new rotation and features more of a back and forth discussion. I’m creating this post to provide arguments for why this was a poor change overall, and provide some valid points that I feel haven’t been raised in the community.Ī TL DR is available, but I’d highly recommend you read the post.
